We’re always excited when the spring thaw begins to take over and we can finally shake off the winter blues! We also get to start preparing for spring rain showers. Which means its time to debut our umbrella designs for spring.
It’s always nice to have a small umbrella to tuck into your cute clutch and dash out the door to join friends. That why our Cute Daisy Purple Travel Umbrella makes the perfect companion for a rainy spring day!
Need a black umbrella that matches every outfit you have? Then you can’t afford to let our Black Brushwood Travel Umbrella slip through your clutches. This adorable umbrella makes a statement while always keeping you dry!
At TRAY6 we believe in high fashion & high function when it comes to umbrella design. However, we’ve come across some interesting umbrella designs out there in the world. Some are quite funny. Some leave us scratching our heads. See for yourself.
Tandem Umbrella
Do you have a significant other that you find yourself the need to share your umbrella with? Why not take a note from designer Jasmine Rasnahan and enjoy this tandem black umbrella! Perfect for a romantic stroll in the rain.
White Cloud Umbrella
Want to blend in with the rainy day around you? Why not have this inflatable white cloud umbrella designed by Joonsoo Kim. While a cute rain umbrella – better hope for no sudden rain storms because this unique umbrella requires inflation for each use.
Black Golf Club Umbrella
Do you find yourself in the mood to hit golf balls of the tee every time it rains? Well this interesting umbrella has two features. When not in use as a basic black umbrella, you can whip it around and whack a few balls. Perfect for all your country club pals.
Samurai Sword Umbrella
Find yourself in the need to dual during a downpour? Well this umbrella tends to fool passerby’s into thinking you’re toting a samurai sword based on its sword like handle. Probably not the umbrella to tote through security at the airport!
If we’re not out and about in the rain, we like to store away the trusty umbrellas and tuck in for a good movie. Being big umbrella lovers we love films that feature our favorite stylish accessory. We’re sharing our top movie choices that feature fashionable (and functional!) umbrellas.
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
Of course a movie featuring an adorable shop girl who has her own umbrella store would be a go-to film for a rainy day. The story of this quaint little umbrella shop girl and her boyfriend the mechanic. Watching their sweet relationship unfold before finding out he will have to enlist in the army, leaving his girlfriend behind with a tough decision to make in his absence. This film is said to have launched Catherine Deneuve’s career and we can totally see why. The colors throughout the movie make it one of our most favorite foreign films! The clip below features one of our favorite love songs, but it also features all the trendy umbrellas & bicycles walking through the quiet french streets (oh-la-la!).
Mary Poppins.
One of the greatest musicals with some of today’s most memorable songs. Everyone’s favorite practical and a wee bit quirky nanny is famous for flying off under her sturdy full sized black umbrella as she bids the Banks family a silent farewell. The umbrella and parasol theme is quite present throughout the entire film. Nanny Poppins trades in her trusty black umbrella with its less than comfortable bird handle after her arrival for a dainty compact white parasol when she & Bert take the Banks kids on an adventure. Nanny Poppins is even seen dancing with that small lace parasol when she & Bert (Dick VanDyke) do one of the most memorable songs from any childhood “Supercalifragilisticexpialidoscious”. A personal favorite is “Step In Time” performed by Bert & his fellow chimney sweeps – with you guessed it, chimney sweeps that resemble large black umbrellas!
Speaking of musicals featuring umbrellas – did you know TRAY6 umbrellas featured in a musical that’s a bit more recent. Our full size grass green umbrellas made a cameo appearance in the newer hit classic, High School Musical 3.
High School Musical 3.
This peppy conclusion to the HSM series features the gang’s senior year with just the same amount of high-energy dance numbers that are sure to dance away any rainy day blues you may have. Did you know our Grass Green Umbrellas make a cameo appearance in one of the musical numbers? Try and sneak a peek next time you watch it!
It’s hard to believe another inauguration has come & gone! President Obama was sworn in for another 4 years of office as the POTUS and everyone who was anyone was there in attendance. Amidst the crowds we spotted several exciting fashion trends! We’re taking a look at what was hot on such a cold, cold day & which stylish TRAY6 umbrella they could have been toting along with them. The Obama family was at the height of style with the youngest Obama girls wearing coats by J.Crew & Kate Spade in gorgeous shades of plum & regency purple.
We’re thankful it didn’t rain on the big celebration, but we do know we have some fabulous umbrellas that could be paired with each of Obama’s favorite gals! Malia sported a very rich plum coat in the chilly air and we know it would have pair fabulously with our travel size daisy plum umbrella. She could have tucked it right into her pocket! And Sasha would have looked dashing under our squire blue compact folding umbrella. With it’s hook handle, she could have easily draped it over her wrist for easy transport.

Some other famous faces that attended the inauguration included Beyonce & husband Jay-Z. Both looked fetching in sleek black attire which would have gone perfectly with one of our favorite large umbrellas. Just enough room for two under our full-size black chain link umbrella.
+
Kelly Clarkson looked adorable in her burgundy plum coat. She would have looked even more stylish tucked under our medium compact flower print folding umbrella to keep her curls dry & extra bouncy!

What fashions were your favorite from the the 2013 Inauguration?? Which TRAY6 umbrella would you tote with you to see the President?
Made famous by the one and only Gene Kelly – this catchy chorus is often the first song that pops into our head when storm clouds come through (or sometimes in the shower in the morning!). “Singing In The Rain” was from the screenplay by the same name and starts with Gene Kelly shooing his driver away so he can do…well, what else, sing in the rain! He tucks his large black umbrella over his shoulder and belts out a song that encouraged most of us to enroll in tap-dancing classes.
From the King himself – this rainy day ballad made plenty of gals wish for a rainy day just to hear Elvis sing. “All I Needed Was The Rain” was made famous in the movie “Stay Away Joe”. Elvis croons out in the rain without an umbrella in sight and gets soaked along with his K9 pals. We bet he wishes he had one or two trusty umbrellas laying around by the end of filming this scene.
By no means was this her first chart-topping hit, but Rihanna became a house-hold name after her summer smash hit “Umbrella” hit radios. The song’s catchy chorus had everyone saying umbrella-ella-ella for months following. Anytime someone asks about songs with umbrellas – this is usually the song that comes to mind. We love her use of a sturdy big black umbrella as a dance prop in her music video (which also featured Jay-Z!).
Other Rainy Day Songs We Love:
Boyz II Men “Can You Stand The Rain”
XTC “1,000 Umbrellas”
10,000 Maniacs “Rainy Day”
Dog’s Eye View “Umbrella” (From the 90′s hit movie Can’t Hardly Wait)
Do you have a friend that’s always “plugged in”? Do they have the latest gadgets and gizmos? Then you’ll love our 2012 holiday gift guide for the techie friend in your life! These gadgets will keep them fashionable & full of high function during the holidays!
Fashion plays a large part in the inspiration behind the designs in our umbrellas. We often draw from styles we see gracing magazines and runways, as well as every day fashion. We then pull out all the aspects that we love and create some truly unique and exciting patterns that end up on our umbrellas. But occasionally its hard to go in the reverse order – how can you make your TRAY6 umbrella work for your fashion needs? With holiday weathering often leaning towards needing an umbrella to get you from venue to venue, don’t fall back on that bland and boring old umbrella you have laying around. Be fierce with fashion and check out some of our fantastic holiday party looks that work around some of our favorite printed umbrellas. Take a peek!
At TRAY6, we’re all about inspiration. We draw our inspiration from anything and everything. It could be something that an adorable child says or it could be the sunset on the beaches of California. Our bags and umbrellas draw their designs from things that inspire us. And in this (slightly) chilly autumn season, we’re inspired by a few different things…
1. Deep oranges, deep purples and deep reds. We could be drawing on this because these fabulous colors are often associated with Halloween, Thanksgiving and fall in general…but right now, they’re just hot, hot, hot and they’re on our mind! We’re looking to weave these fabulous colors into some future umbrella designs.
2. Feathers, twigs and autumn leaves. This is what’s happening in nature right now. Leaves are crunching underfoot, twigs are bare as they wave in the wind and feathers are often found fluttering down from the branches. We’ve seen these fabulous pieces being added into many everyday items, such as feathers being worn on earrings or in the hair, twigs being turned into fabulous cuff bracelets or adorable headbands (just check Etsy!). Speaking of autumn leaves, our holiday Harvest Compact Rain Umbrella definitely inspired by the changing leaves.
3. And finally, we’re being inspired by the holidays. This time of year is full of festive occasions for everyone. It is also during this time of year that you see communities, families and friends really coming together and celebrating. We love the thought of strong communities and strong ties to those who are important to you. It’s also a fantastic time to get a little dressed up and get some great family photos!
And while we bask in this delicious inspiration – we’re looking towards drawing on these things to create a few new designs to add into the TRAY6 family…you’ll just have to stay tuned to see what they are!
